On May 11, 2001, the police raided a nightclub inside a boat in the Nile, specifically in the Zamalek area. Fifty-two gays were detained in the floating cairo52 / Queen Boat nightclub.
The Egyptian pressunited at the time to publish the news, their face pictures were published in the news and newspapers. Many of them were sentenced to three years and others were sentenced to six months, all of them were accused of practicing debauchery. This sparked widespread controversy around the world due to the aggressive behavior of the Egyptian police towards gays in Egypt.
في الحادي عشر من مايو عام 2001 داهمت قوات الشرطة ناديًا ليليًا بداخل سفينة عائمة في النيل بمنطقة الزمالك تحديدًا،حيث احتجز 52 مثليًا في الملهي الليلي العائم "كوين بوت".
تكاتفت الصحافة المصرية آنذاك للنشر بشكل موحد عن الخبر حيث نُشرت صور وجوههم في الأخبار والصحف. تم الحكم علي الكثير منهم بثلاث سنوات وعلى آخرين بستة أشهر متهمين بممارسة الفجور. أثار ذلك جدلًا واسعًا حول العالم بسبب السلوك العدواني للشرطة المصرية تجاه مثليِّ مصر.

Ahead of the Egyptian Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, 27 Egyptian, regional and international civil society organizations have addressed a joint open letter to European, Canadian and U.S. officials calling on them to speak out in solidarity with LGBTQI+ communities and defenders in Egypt, who are subjected to serious and continual violations by the Egyptian government, and smear campaigns and incitement to hatred and violence through official media platforms.
قبل اليوم المصري لمناهضة رهاب المثلية الجنسية ورهاب المتحولين جنسيا ورهاب ازدواجية الميل الجنسي، والذي تحل ذكراه سنويًا في 11 مايو، وجهت 27 منظمة حقوقية مصرية وإقليمية ودولية رسالة مفتوحة مشتركة إلى سفراء حقوق الإنسان حول العالم ومسئولين أوروبيين وكنديين وأمريكيين تدعوهم للتحدث علانيةً تضامنًا مع مجتمع الميم وحقوق المثليين والنشطاء المدافعين عنهم في مصر، والذين يتعرضون لانتهاكات جسيمة ومستمرة من قبل السلطات المصرية، وحملات تشهير وحض على الكراهية من خلال المنصات الإعلامية الرسمية.
11 مايو، هو ذكرى واقعة كوين بوت/القاهرة 52، والذي يمر هذا العام 20 عامًا على أحداثها، التي أسفرت عن اعتقال 52 رجلًا مثليًا وتعذيبهم، فضلًا عن التشهير بهم وبعائلاتهم على وسائل الإعلام. وفي ذكرى هذا العام، تطلق مجموعة من المنظمات غير الحكومية حملة لحث السلطات المصرية على وقف استهداف واعتقال أفراد ونشطاء مجتمع الميم.

في اليوم المصري لمناهضة رهاب المثلية الجنسية ، ورهاب المتحولين جنسيا ، ورهاب البيفوبيا ، وجهت 17 منظمة مجتمع مدني مصرية وإقليمية ودولية بيانًا مفتوحًا مشتركًا دعوة الي الحكومة المصرية إلى وقف استهداف واعتقال أفراد ونشطاء مجتمع الميم عين.
