French Foreign Ministry declares paying “particular attention” to Eman Al-Helw and Hossam Ahmed’s case.

On February 25, 2020, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to a question asked by Member of Parliament Raphaël Gérard - Député regarding the situation of LGBTQI+ people and Human rights defenders in Egypt; and specifically the arrest and detention of Eman Al-Helw and Hossam Ahmed.

In its answer, the Foreign Ministry declares that France “is particularly attentive to the cases of Eman Al-Helw and Hossam Ahmed, arrested in February 2019 and who, according to their lawyers, have suffered degrading treatment.” The statement also reads that Human rights always take an important part in the bilateral discussions between Egypt and France, and are a necessary condition for peace and stability.
